"Powell Skirts Questions About His Future "
Thu Nov 4,10:07 AM ET
Well, after the smoke had cleared we are ok - if we keep our eyes and ears open.
I had to keep telling myself during the election that however it came out we'll be ok, because it's the Americans that control not the American president. This has always been the truth in our nation. But you always have to remind yourself that the American you my have known 5 years ago, 2 weeks ago or yesterday isn't the same American you know today. We are an evolving - re-evolving nation of individuals. We are driven by those values, issues and reasoning that we feel better represent ourselves, at this point in time. Our government is for the people, of the people. Yes, the President has some disturbing agendas according to 48% of the population. Yet 51% say he's right on track with what they want. I can't argue with that. That's America ... majority rules! Regardless of how close. The elections seem to go smoothly without much turmoil. If you think there is a grand conspiracy at the polls and that's why your side lost. Get over it, quit whining ... it went better than it's ever gone before.
One good thing and one sort of bad thing in the cabinet are evolving. The good thing: Ashcroft is set to resign. YES! I've never liked him. I expect the Attorney General to be biased to the party that appointed them, but he's a little right of even the President. There are many other things that make me cringe when I hear his name. Bush's image in my eye will improve 50% if Ashcroft leaves. It will go up to 90% if he ditched Dick... but that's another day.
The one bad thing about the cabinet is the rumor of Sec. Powell's departure. He is a great man caught in an impossible situation. He could have brought the entire world to our side if left to do his job. But instead he is used as a deflection of most of the Whitehouse’s Foreign policy. The current mission of the Secretary of State, is to be administration’s messenger of doom and ultimatums. A position far beneath Colon Powell’s abilities and perceived values. He was wasted on this administration. I hope he gets a chance to really make a difference for America, outside being an amazing American General and hero.
Liberals: You’ll be ok. You're image needs work. In my political imagination, far left liberals have lost a cohesive message - the air about them is weak, confused and in a convulsing mob of wasteful anarchy. There's no political glue.
Democrats: not to be confused with Liberals. You need not be the vehicle of this slimy yoke of liberalism. Pick some values, reflect the country not the extremists. Go back into the factories, go back into the Universities, go back into the housing projects and fields, and go back into the Church for crying out loud! The donkeys need to redefine themselves . . . you only have a couple years to do it too .. get busy. Hint: Hillary is NOT the future. Find yourself a chaste Clinton (Bill) with a little FDR, a bit of Kennedy - and a LOT of Reagan, yes Reagan ... figure it out.
GOP'pers ... good job. You taught a lesson to the Liberals, but just barely. Remember, 48% of the population didn't necessarily vote for Kerry, they voted against Bush. That has to say something. You too only have two years to hold position. If you can reign in the far right fringes, clean up Iraq, re-focus the War on Terrorism - and make sure the economic divide doesn't get more divided, I think you have a good thing going. But be careful, there's a new moderate Democrat that will have vision, voice, values, and vitality that will come in a sweep the people's rug out from under the ruling elephants. I suggest you groom your own charismatic moderate.
Can you say ... Obama?
