gulf coast diaspora

gulf coast diaspora

I had heard a few of the media covered victims of Katrina, and the aftermath of Katrina say they will never go back to New Orleans, Biloxi and other horror filled memories of the Gulf Coast. They’d rather face the unknown future in their new evacuated locations.

I only hope that these host communities will understand this and welcome them into the fold. I hope that when the south is rebuilt that the Americans that don’t want to go back, don’t have to. I hope the host communities don’t ‘unwelcome’ the victims when the rubble is cleared.

I hear at least 1,000 victims are being relocated to Oregon. I urge us all to welcome them. And if they feel in the future that returning to their old home is too painful, they can make their home here. I welcome them.
