Rain has returned to Oregon. Like clockwork, I always tell out-of-staters that it doesn’t always rain in Oregon. In fact September is one of the best months weather-wise. But be ready, on October 1rst the rain starts. It came one day early. In buckets, like it was making up for lost time. But I love it … wouldn’t live here if I didn’t.Our cul-de-sac turned into a lake today however. It started to push itself up onto the law even. Fortunately my neighbor got out there with a raincoat, high boots and a shovel and cleared the drains. Flood abated!
So now I sit in my bedroom, later into the evening listening to some soft music and the rain on the street below. The returning rain to an Oregonian is like our blood returning to our veins.
This is only our second month in Oregon. We're "housing refugees" from California. Locals tell me that the rains gets a little hard to take around February. And right around the fourth year, it gets tougher still.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if other locals have any other "pearls" about the weather.
Just for fun. Thanks.

Hi Sonya,
ReplyDeleteYes, January & Febuary rain can be COLD. And by Febuary the charm of the rain starts to ware off ... we wish the sun returns.
I am wondering about my California clothes now. The wind blows right through the weave. I suppose it also takes some getting used to. I see you have the same poor schmucks here wearing shorts in the rain just like back in California in November, obviously cold and in denial that "party time" in the sun is over.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love: sleeping with the window open at night here. The air is fantastic! You could do that in Petaluma, but you also got the wind gusts and the smell of cow pastures.
You guys have the best sleeping weather, much like San Francisco where I grew up.
