Groups Threaten to Boycott American Girl


Why would you want to spurn programs that empower girls? Why would you want to discourage children from enjoying toys and books that are wholesome? Would you rather buy your little girls violent sexually motivated video games and dolls with big heads and cat eyes that dress like hookers?

Why? Why … are the wackiest political self-righteous fanatics always the loudest?

Well, I’ll try to be louder.
The article linked about got me very jittery and angry. How this pompous group of religious mini-fascists can say with a straight face that a product line like American Girl and a program like Girls Inc. can be at the root of degrading the American family is utterly absurd. So Girls Inc. promotes helping girls with their sexuality questions. What’s the alternative, point and them, call them sinner, perhaps chuck a stone at them?
And Heaven forbid we inform girls (and boys for that matter) of their rights as Americans, as humans. Sometimes I feel the religious right-r-us forget that the right of choice also means the right to choose life. The right to make decisions for and about yourself doesn’t automatically make you a baby murderer, a heathen, a harlot.

So here’s what I want everyone to do.

And I invite you to sit down with your clergy, pastor … spiritual advisor and discuss this topic. As them where the balance should be … where the compassion should be … what the moral value would be in this situation.
