Pig Poop, Smells like ... the state fair!

We ventured out to the state fair on Sunday. Kids all got in free because the wife was working the fish & wildlife exhibit. I however paid, standing in a long grumpy line to get a ticket. We were going at a good pace but then the ticket printer ran out of paper and we had to wait 20 extra minutes, not moving, until someone drove a new roll in from Lake County or something.

I finally got in with Adz and we fought through the crowd to get to the Fish & Wildlife cabin. We poked at the turtles, baby steelhead, rattlesnake and plaster casts of wildlife poop. Looked for Herman the sturgeon, but he’s not here this year.

After the wife’s shift was over we headed out to get big cones of ice cream from the Oregon Dairy Women’s Barn … Yum, another long line – but worth the wait.
We sat and watched some jugglers that had emigrated from the Country Fair in Eugene, a whole different experience from the Oregon State Fair I can tell you. (not really, I've never been ... but I've heard the stories)

Adz wanted to do some rides so the first thing we went on was a small tiger-shaped roller coaster. Bad idea dad! Although it was tame enough for me, it was fast and rickety. She had a death grip on the whole ride. And commented, “I almost puked” … and therefore did NOT want to ride anything else.

We played some midway games, and I did eventually win Adz a bear with one of those squirt-the-water-at-a-tiny-target-race games. Walked through some barns to smell livestock manure, see pigs’ gargantuan testicles and some rather gaily shaved llamas.

Then we went home and collapsed. The workers returned to the house the next day, EARLY .. labor day .. and started to saw and pound on siding. Joy.
