I’m finally catching up on the sleep I lost Wednesday night at the Regina Spektor concert. It was our 4-month wedding anniversary on the 25th so we treated ourselves to a concert on the town. Portland town that is.
We drove up the freeway and got on the Max Train from Beaverton and into Portland to the Crystal Ballroom. Well actually we stopped off at Ringlers (yet another McMenamins) The trip was fun. The beer at Ringlers was great, the burger I had was so so. We then got in line for the concert. The doors opened at 8:00pm. We stood around for an hour inside … yes stood. There wasn’t any seating or anything in Lola’s Room, just a bar, a stage rammed in the corner and empty floor space.
Then when the warm-up act started at 9:00pm we stood close to watch/listen. It wasn’t very good in my opinion. Only Son, just a guy, a guitar and an iPod, just wasn’t my thing that night. I’m sure he was fine, the room was just not making him shine in the best light.
He was done in about 20 minutes. … we waited … and waited … waited … then about 10:15pm Regina came out. I was getting Very grumpy at about 9:59pm. But she came out and she started to sing and was great.
She was charming, beautifully giggly and played and sang perfectly. There was an issue with her piano, no power. Then her mic was hot all night, she had to stop to get that fixed a bunch of times. A fight almost broke out in the audience, but Regina threatened to send them to ‘time-out’ and all was fine after that.
In summary: Regina, GREAT, Venue blew chunks. If she comes back to town, I hope it’s somewhere else.
We got out of there about 11:30pm .. walked to the train station, caught the last one at midnight back to the transit center, got in the van and drove home. We got to bed and to sleep about 2:00am I’m guessing. I got up 3 hours later to go to work. Aaaaaah .. my gosh I was tired.
Later Thursday night we went to a choir concert at the middle school and stayed up ‘till 11:30pm signing new mortgage loan papers. Oh dear god I’m too old for this kind of high speed life!!! LOL
