I cashed in my valentine gift last night at the White Eagle Saloon.Venue was great. The White Eagle Saloon is another McMenamin’s re-creation pubs. My wife looked into getting us one of the very few rooms that are above bar, but they were booked up already. I think Jonathan Coulton took the entire floor with his entourage. Probably not, he travels alone. AND speaking of Jonathan Coulton, or JoCo as we super-fans call him, he played a grinning sing-a-long festival of love, which was very appropriate for it was my lovely and heaven-sent wife who got us tickets for Valentines.
JoCo sang all the hits; Code Monkey, Skullcrusher Mountain, Tom Cruise Crazy, etc and the list goes on. It was very hard not to sing along. I’m a fan from way back after I heard his version of “Baby Got Back” and he started doing the “Thing a Week”. The supporting act was not a slacker either, Colin Lake played a very smooth lap slide guitar and with nice bluesy voice it started the evening just perfectly.
Jonathan came up to our table (which happened to be the same table he had a volunteer sell his t-shirts and cd’s) and said hello. I just had to get myself a t-shirt but the Re: Your Brains xl t-shirts were out, so I got the Skullcrusher Mountain one instead. The Jonathan Coulton concert some yummy chicken tenders, and two glasses of Hammerhead and I was just having the best time. If JC comes to your town, go see him. Even if you don’t know him or his music from naught, I guarantee you will leave with a smile on your face.
