Small Town Gyro

While in the shower this morning I had the craving for something served in pita bread. I do not know how these things come to mind, they just do. I mentioned that at the first instant the wife asked me what I wanted for dinner tonight. She jumped on the food network website and pulled off a recipe for Gyro with Tzatziki sauce. It was originally for lamb, but I don’t eat lamb. I don’t like the taste, plus it’s eating a baby. I just don’t like that concept. So we made it with lean ground beef. When I mean “we” I mean I went to the grocery store and Christie prepared it. Not that I couldn’t … but she’s the woman, it’s her job. JUST KIDDING!

The recipe required a brick. Yes a brick that we would wrap in tinfoil and place on the gyro flavored meatloaf. Apparently is continues to cook under the pressure. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any bricks available for this recipe. I was heading out the front door when my wife, in an apparent jest suggested one of the landscaping stones from the front lawn. At that moment I looked down and there was a loose, closely brick-shaped concrete stone on the end of the flowerbed. Sure, it was a bit dirty and there was moss growing on its north side, but a brick is a brick. I threw it in the sink and scrubbed most the dirt and some of the moss off. When the loaf was done she plopped that hunk of cement on it, and I ran for the camera (of course).

Dinner was more than yummy! It was heaven folded inside some flat bread.

The ‘brick’ was returned to the front yard.
