Today a co-worker passed around a link to a webpage and encouraged us to 'sign' a petition (American Solutions) forcing congress to expedite tapping into America's oil, off shore and in pristine nature reserves. I responded by explaining that if we starting drilling tomorrow you won't see any savings for 7 to 10 years, and that much of the price increase is due more to a weak dollar and increased demand by other nations for domestic and manufacturing fuel and oil-based materials needs. I told him what we really need to do is to kick our crack-like addiction to oil, not to increase the supply of this drug.
Do I like to pay over $4.00 at the pump? No. Nevertheless, I don't blame foreign oil suppliers for my rage. I blame the greed of American Oil Industry (AOI). I blame the people that elected the oil company's own grinder monkey into office. I also blame that same greed and oil monkey (OMP) power for the mess in Iraq, which also has brought oil prices up because instability in the region. They rather shot themselves in the foot. They also shot American ingenuity in the foot. I think the USA can figure out what to replace oil with quicker if we weren't still looking for our next oil fix. The AOI is our meth-lab and the OMP is our pusher. Until we stop tweekin' on crude we won't be able to see the true need to innovate.
Now, McBush wants to drill more wells, build more coal plants and encourage the resurrection of nuclear power. (There's a great commentary about this on Daily Kos ). How about looking outside the box for a change?!? There's that word again: Change
