I have a big place in my heart for veterans, being one myself. I have pictures to prove it. I am looking for a few things out of my next president and the congress. They sent our troops off to fight wars, just or unjust as they may be, the government and US society is obligated to pay them back for their sacrifices.
Here's my list:
- Mental Health screening and 100% treatment costs cover for the rest of their lives.
- Physical Health screening and quality health coverage provided if they can't get any from employers
- Continuing education help, paid by government up to a bachelor's degree
- Quality Job placement services
I feel this are the bare minimum that the American people owe veterans. I would even have this placed into a constitutional amendment. Because I'm just that crazy. And just how would we pay for this? Well, I'm thinking take it right out of the Defense Budget. Perhaps if they don't buy that one extra stealth bomber, some wounded soldiers could get some counseling for PTSD. Maybe we could do without another aircraft carrier, there's some college tuition right there! Maybe we can boot scoot out of Iraq, wow! How much medical coverage could that take care of? I bet we could build some state-of-the-art veterans hospitals.
