D minus 4 : E Pluribus Unum

Lincoln"It's what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family: "E pluribus unum," out of many, one. Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America; there's the United States of America. There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America. The pundits, the pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue States: red states for Republicans, blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states. We coach little league in the blue states and, yes, we've got some gay friends in the red states. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq, and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America." Barack Obama - July, 2004 Democratic National Convention -- read more

I guess I can say I drank the kool-aid way back in 2004. In the middle of a Bush reign we had the desire to overturn the government, but not the right leader, yet. We had to suffer four more broken divided years, breaking our economy, losing face in the world and transporting the flag-draped bodies of America's children back from a deceptively motivated war in South West Asia before we would see a leader arise to face the challenges.

Unity is in our best interest. Not homogeny but unity, undivided, as one nation will we all arise from the ashes. It's more than Republican vs Democrat, or Liberal vs Conservative, it's a unity at all levels of the American experience. An event that has been past due perhaps since the Civil War.

The Civil War was fought from Sumter to Appomattox, from April 12, 1861, to April 9, 1865. But the roots of the war predated 1861, and the consequences lived on long after 1865. In reality the Civil War never ended, it just shifted from a military to a culture war - the same culture war that is still going on today. ... When Barack Obama is sworn in as our 44th president, a symbolic marriage will be enacted, binding us together forever, black and white. We will have chosen to become one. We will have chosen to become family. The War will be over. E pluribus unum. -- you MUST read more
