Health care. A right? A privilege? A commodity? I would say all of the above, and I would add A huge pain of explosive advancement, greedy insurance companies, greedy pharmacy companies, people making unhealthy decisions and then showing up at the emergency rooms, a weird fear of socialize medicine.
Should every American have access to medical treatment; yes. Should all Americans have the right to health insurance? Well, that's where it gets a little sticky. From all that I have researched, this is problem that won't ever get fixed if there's not an audit of how the following is affecting the costs of medical treatments:
- Insurance costs including malpractice insurance
- Shortage of Nurses, and nursing schools
- Pharmaceutical companies creating "sicknesses" for their new drugs (a supply-side shame)

How much can the president really do about health costs/care anyway? The only body that has power will be the congress and with Rx and Insurance lobbyist sitting in their offices, what incentive is there to fix this? The President can lead, but he can't legislate. But the reality is this: If McCain wins he will be faced with a Democratic congress like no one has seen before, he'll get nothing through. The only hope for Health Care reform in my view may be Hillary Clinton's Leadership in the Senate, with perhaps that secret agreement with Obama to push through her agenda. But if it doesn't include the three items I listed above it will be for naught. Anything else will just be a package of favors.
