A couple articles popped out at me this morning, and especially after last night when I was internally debating the merits of continuing to drive my daughter to tap dance class 4 blocks away, once a week ...
of Gov. Palin:At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn., she was all about the hockey moms. But this afternoon, as she made her way to the stage at Scranton's Riverfront Sports Complex, the Astroturf on the floor reminded her that she needed to deliver a shout-out to women whose children play other sports.

I've had very little experience as a soccer dad and now as tap-dance dad and I know the sacrifices women make to get their kids off to sporting events. But very few of these little athletes make it to professional (paying) sports teams, and very few make it to Broadway to show off their 'shuffle onto buffalo' moves, now do they? Then, as to reinforce my opinion, I caught this blurb:
Beyond the fact that maybe dads should do more of the driving, where are the debate club moms and the math club moms?
It really borders on a kind of abuse to allow a child to grow in our culture without our taking on a strong role in his or her strengths and interests, both in school and in life in general. -- read more
Ultimately, after talking with my daughter I see how she loves the tap class. I understand the social, physical and healthy lifestyle that sports may bring to the youth, but I'm going to work with her on her math, science and critical thinking skills also. So if she ever wants to be president someday, she'll actually qualify.
