Climate/Pollution
A large percentage of our domestic energy production is generated by coal burning boilers, which was a surprise to me considering most of our energy here in the northwest is generated by hydroelectric system. Good old water and gravity, just like God intended electricity to be generated. Screw those salmon! Just kidding. There's got to be a better solution for replacing those coal burning powerplants, and clean up the air. By cleaning up the air we can reverse that Al Gore thing ... what is that? Inconvenient Warming, or something.
Economy/Jobs
There needs to be a reinvestment into energy related jobs. I believe that, when I'm president ... er, when Obama is president he will invest in rebuilding the energy grid, building wind and solar plants, look at alternatives to coal burning and perhaps look to build some safe nuclear power plants to replace them, that would put many Homer Simpson-like people to work right there! The auto industry will have to re-tool and build some greener, alternative energy vehicles if its going to compete in the world. They need to start like, yesterday. I'm sure the Germans and Japanese have already had these plans on the books for years. The Egyptians and Aztecs built pyramids and other huge public projects to keep their people busy during the off season, I think we need an energy pyramid project to put out of work people back to work building a new American Energy infrastructure.
Oil/Security
Ok, we all know oil is like the American Crack. We are way over due for some detox and rehab. We really need to break this oil habit. And it's not just foreign oil either, you are still an alcoholic if you have stopped going to liquor store but are now brewing hooch up in a old bath tub in the basement. We're still oil junkies either way. The big problem, everything we use, see, drive in, wear and EAT has some oil in it somehow, someway. The computer screen you're looking at right now was made of oil. Yea, plastic is made of oil! Forgot about that didn't cha? Here's my solution. Stop driving; invest in mass transit that is cool for everyone to use (bullet trains & monorails with butlers) and quit buying toys and clothes made from non-recycled plastic. OR ... replace everything plastic with hemp, jute, coconuts, and bamboo. It worked for the hippies on Giligan's island didn't it? You didn't see them pulling up to the Chevron with their palm thatched hatchbacks did you?

On a serious note, we do need to get really innovative on new sources of oil, or a replacement for oil. We can't bully the world out of their limited oil supplies for too much longer. The longer we have to 'defend' our oil supply in the middle east, the the more blood and treasure we'll need to spend to feed this habit. It needs to end now. Like, yesterday.
