Why did a politician who once knew how to play the game so well, who was once so beloved by people of very different political stripes, allow his campaign to get whiny, angry, vengeful and bitter? Why Palin?... Why did he allow his staff to put Palin on a couture catwalk in a tin-cup economy and then, when the price tags were exposed, trash her as a “diva” and “whack job,” thus becoming the rare Republican campaign devoured by Democratic-style vicious infighting? -- read moreThe biggest question to be answered: why did McCain allow himself to get in this situation? He let his handlers handle him into failure. The maverick allowed himself to be hobbled, broken, corralled. And because of that, how can we expect him to be wild again in the Oval Office? He's no longer free. The bridle of his campaign choices have doomed him. He is only left to gnaw foamy on the bit of his new destiny.
