First Day at Work

not my officeToday was my first day at my new job. Mostly it meant I was just going through a fat packet of paperwork, I-9. W2, Direct Deposit, etc. Also there was a small book on retirement benefits. There was also a bit of policy statements. Pretty standard for government work, I can imagine.
I guess the one thing I did notice today was the quietness of the office. I kidded around with my daughter today, telling her it was so quiet I could hear my pencil move across paper. But I wasn't too far off. It was so quiet that every time my tummy gurgled or growled I was afraid everyone could hear it. It is going to be so nice to work in a quiet place. However, that means when you do talk, everyone can hear you. I'll feel like a hundred ears will be trained on me every time I pick up the phone. Unnerving. But I can live with it because it's a state job. The foot is in the door. Hold on, let's see how well I do.
