Easter Helicopters and Social Darwinism

easter_chopper
Easter festivities began with a trip to a local private Christian academy to participate in an Easter Egg hunt.  Rumor had it that thousands of eggs will be dropped from a helicopter.  How can anyone pass THAT up?  Well, no one did pass it up apparently.

The multitude estimated in the thousands of souls gathered to form a long serpentine line to the LZ.  I observed quite the slice of citizenry in that line.  It was quite obvious to this writer that it was cut from the local population of East Salemnoids (low middle and low income families).  Parents with various attire representing many of their hobbies, beer, pot, etc. And many eager, but polite and patient kids.  A LOT OF KIDS!  The Academy may have under estimated the popularity of the inaugural air-eggsault event.

And I don’t blame them, eggs from a helicopter?  How cool is that?  I was hoping after enduring the long line I moshed along in, that the helicopter event would be more exciting.  I was picturing in my uber-pre-programmed imagination a scene from Apocalypse Now with a hundred assault helicopters coming in from the east blaring Wagner’s  Ride of the Valkyries, shooting machine-gun peeps and chocolate bunny rockets, but alas it was only one tiny black chopper dumping garbage bags of plastic eggs over the football field.  The crowd seemed to like the show.

After the second egg-drop the children lined up on the edges of the field and once released demonstrated what probably would go down if the apocalypse did began and the citizenry would start looting.  Pushing, shoving, running, stomping, grabbing, screaming … everything that Easter is all about. right? Considering there was thousands of eggs dropped and thousands of children participating one would have to be aggressive to get anything.  Parents ran to the field to scout out eggs and children ran to target.  The bold had dozens of eggs, the meek had two.  That’s life isn’t it?  And isn’t that what Easter is all about?  Survival of the go-getter, the fittest, the can-do, the confident is humanity’s goal.  Rewards go to the fanatically driven.  The meek shall inherit .. broken pieces of plastic egg.
